Why do guitar strings rust so fast?

The higher the relative humidity of the air, the faster they'll rust. Wound strings will pick up dirt, grease and bits of dead skin in the wraps, probably the primary reason why strings get duller as they age. But the big variants in string corrosion are the player's skin/sweat acidity and air pollution.

How do I stop my guitar string from rusting?

Washing your hands before playing will remove any lingering swear and oils, preventing them from transferring over to your guitar strings. Another way to protect against rusting is to clean your guitar strings after playing. Using a lint-free microfiber cloth, gently wipe down your strings. And using STRING PRO-TECH® after every jam session will help prevent rusting by insulating them from outside air.

Is it okay to play the guitar with rusty strings?
